lane quits: "integrity compromised"

the avalanche of skylight artists refusing to work for eric dillner now includes singer diane lane, scheduled to perform the role of cherubino in marriage of figaro.
Unlike some of my beloved colleagues, I had hoped during these last five tumultuous weeks that once the rehearsal room doors closed on Bill Theisen and his hand-picked casts next season, we could still do Good Work. Now that Bill won't be at the helm of any 50th anniversary year productions, I can't imagine your recent decisions not contaminating the rehearsal/performance process of devoted Skylight veterans.

I write to refuse SOT's offer to perform the role of Cherubino in The Marriage of Figaro this winter.

I've been a Skylight performer and audience member for almost 20 years. To me, the absolute hallmark of a SOT production is an astounding commitment to artistic excellence. I can't in good conscience perform for Skylight if I sense the integrity of my work for the company will be compromised (especially since it was SOT who taught me how to deeply honor the craft of realizing music/theater.)

Are any of you on the BOD compromising your integrity by allowing Skylight to lose all that it has in these last days? Please take a moment to consider where SOT has been and where it seems to be going. You know you have the ability to direct Skylight onto a path that will much better ensure its next 50 years. You know what to do -- you've been urged to do it by countless people since 6/16. DO IT.

Most Sincerely,
Diane Lane
