vermin who need to be eliminated

atrios on the media's obsession with teabaggers:
It kind of fascinates me that people who have never followed politics, never taken a class in public policy, hell sometimes never even voted, all of a sudden think they know how to run a diverse country of 300 million. Not only do they have all the answers, but anyone who disagrees with them are vermin who need to be eliminated. Since they really have nothing substantial to add to the conversation, I'd like to ignore these people, but the media just won't let me.
check.

why tuesdays comments are moderated

a little less than a week ago, as the editor of this blog, i removed two comments written by an anonymous tuesdays commenter; comments i felt contained information that was not only inaccurate, but offensive.

the commenter disagreed, was unhappy with my decision, and we had a bit of a back and forth about it all.

hence, the recent appearance of these annoying seven words:
Your comment will be visible after approval.
comments on tuesdays are now moderated. that means, from here on out, when you post a comment on this blog it will be seen and approved by me before it gets published.

this process usually happens fairly quickly, from my cell phone. but there will be times when someone on the west coast comments after i've gone to bed. or someone comments while i'm at a movie, or seeing a play. those comments may still be posted, but their appearance on the blog may not be immediate.

i sincerely hope this won't deter you from commenting (it hasn't so far) and if you have any problems with this decision, glance over to the right: that picture is me. the name above it is mine. and not far below it are the words this is a blog of personal opinion.

thanks.

"the suits are terrified"

andrew sullivan on the new associated press policy that "news articles should not turn up on search engines and web sites without permission."

sullivan:
As the MSM struggles to make money, expect more and more of this. The golden era of blogging and linking and open discussion may be coming to an end. The suits are terrified of it. And their bottom line is not the dissemination of ideas or facts, but the making of money. If they have to lose readers but make money, they're happy.

the revolution will be televised twittered

this is why i twitter. there was a major news story happening all day today, but you would never have known from watching cnn, msnbc, or fox news. in fact, the most current, up-to-the-minute information could be found via twitter.

while cnn was airing a pair of waterskiing squirrels, and larry king's in depth interview with the crew from american chopper, an election in iran was more than likely stolen, there were massive riots in the streets, reports of 50-100 dead, major clashes with police, and the opposition candidates were placed under house arrest.

and some of the best coverage of the day came not from the mainstream media, but from blogger andrew sullivan.

what a maroon!

wild sheep chasing offers ten commonsense tips for arguing with idiots (if i'd only known.) wsc saves my favorite for last:
10. Don’t start. If you cannot agree on the basic tenants of reality, don’t start an argument with an idiot. Remember faith trumps logic. You cannot argue the poop on the rug is Dog’s fault if you cannot agree that Dog exists.

thanks for the java

i haven't mentioned it yet, but i'm a little overwhelmed by the response to the will blog for coffee feature recently added to this blog. thanks to everyone who's bought me a cup, a pound, or a full dinner and a nice decaf.

palistinian leader is a dancing queen?

i love a good mistake. lord knows, i make plenty of them. and when you make a mistake, make it "loud and proud" as my friend james says. at least you were making a strong attempt at something.

mark halperin is editor-at-large and senior political analyst for time magazine. he also has a... well, a page online. it's sort of a blog, but not really. this was one of the articles, er...headlines today, on his...blog (which, amazingly enough, is called "the page.") it links to an article in blender magazine in which john mccain and barack obama list their top 10 favorite songs (p.s. neither one has any beatles.) as you can see from mark's "page," john mccain lists "two songs from ABBAS..."

mark must think that palestinian leader mahmoud abbas sings dancing queen and take a chance on me. and who am i to say...both songs have been covered by some pretty interesting artists...

my life as a carny

being a bit of a baby blog, you do what you can to attract new readers. that includes being active on other blogs, annoying your friends and family, and so much more!

then sometimes, you get lucky. i was lucky enough to just be mentioned by taylor marsh on her widely read blog, which in turn brought tons of traffic to this site.

blog carnivals are a way to get your name and your writing out there. the carnival host lists blogs that have been submitted, and folks get to peruse and check out new stuff. hopefully, some of them hang out, come back, and visit often.

i mention this as A) a welcome to anyone checking out tuesdays for the first time, from today's new blog showcase at pet's garden blog. and 2) as a way to perhaps send some of you back to this page to check out some other newbies (i enjoyed carolyn's vanilla latte post at the beernut gallery, and there are some great sunset photo's of hawaii at local kine.)

kay-yogi dot what?

as you're telling your best friend from high school or your family dentist about this blog, i'm sure the conversation eventually swings around to "what are we gonna do about that molar?" or "did you hear old coach pickler had an affair with mrs. wyler in the guidance office?"

and then, as you're rinsing, they say "oh yeah, that blog you mentioned. how do i find it?"

and you spit and say, "um...it's kay starr dot something-or-other. obi won cannoli. kay-yoda dot yogi bear...oh dagnabbit, i forget."

well. first, try not saying things like "dagnabbit".
then, try this: tuesdaysblog.com

from now on, you'll be able to say "i wasn't on the tennis team" or "let's deal with that molar when i come back for a cleaning" or "what exactly were you doing when i was anesthetized?" or, more importantly "that blog? oh! it's at":

tuesdaysblog.com

(p.s. if you've bookmarked or subscribed to a feed from kayobi.blogspot.com, no worries. you needn't change a thing right now.)

everyday is tuesday

a couple of folks, in passing, have mentioned that they enjoy reading tuesdays on tuesday. it's occurred to me that perhaps the title of this blog is a bit misleading.

tuesday is not the only day new posts are published. the blog is updated pretty much every day. sometimes two, three times a day. sometimes.

so why not make wednesday tuesday? why not do a little exploring, and see what was up last thursday. or saturday. did you maybe miss that great post about jim j. bullock last friday?

and keep your eye on that green column to the right for a proper definition of tuesdays. coming soon.
