what we do in this country

cnn's don lemon, reporting live from new orleans during hurricane gustav, while behind him the national guard heads out to patrol the streets:
"this is what happens when we have disasters in this country – everybody comes together, especially the members of the military, they're getting their orders from the captain here...this is what we do in this country. we come together and we make sure that everybody is safe..."
all indications so far are that hurricane gustav may not be the disaster that was katrina. much credit will go to the evacuation process, and the work the guard does is vital. it's also a different storm.

but i find it almost unbelievable that that quote is from african american man standing in a hurricane in new orleans. maybe he's forgotten about this:
