pow!

“Yesterday, John McCain actually said that if he’s president he’ll take on, and I quote, 'the old boys’ network in Washington.' I’m not making this up. This is somebody who's been in Congress for 26 years, who put seven of the most powerful Washington lobbyists in charge of his campaign. And now he tells us that he’s the one who’s gonna take on the old boys' network. In the McCain campaign that’s called a staff meeting!”
– Sen. Barack Obama

  1. age is a number, tony. doesn't mean mccain has to be forever thought or linked as "old" in his thoughts and passions. right?

  2. again, my friend, i think you miss the point.

obama is not talking about mccain's age. he's talking about mccain and the people in charge of his campaign being members of the washington establisment, and the people advising him being lobbyists.

from wikipedia: the good ol' boy network describes a system of social networking and perceptions alleged to exist prevalently among certain communities and social strata in the united states.

also from wikipedia: An old boy network, or society, can refer to social and business connections among former pupils of top, male-only private schools.

but if you want to talk about how old grampa is, we can do that too...

  3. Obama specified the lobbyists on ihs payroll - that's what he meant by the "old boys' network" as a staff meeting. If the underlying message that people take away is "McCain=really old," well, that's their interpretation!
