se-man-tics

for anyone confused by catholic league president bill donohue's argument that the catholic church's sexual abuse problem is one of homosexuality not pedophilia, let's clear something up: a sexual preference for post-pubescent individuals is not homosexuality. it's either ephebophilia (mid to late adolescents), or hebephilia (earlier pubescent). and often, the term pedophilia is used – rightly or wrongly – to encompass all sexual preferences to minors.

homosexuality is a sexual preference for an individual of the same sex. it has nothing to do with minors or children - post or pre-pubescent.

and lest mr. donohue forget, there's another term for sex with a minor: statutory rape.

i'm not sure if there's a separate term for statutory rape that occurs while in the confessional.
