    "To undermine individual rights and liberties"? Hmm...wouldn't one of those individual rights and liberties be marriage? As an individual right, not as something a group of people feel they can take away. His statement is more socialist than conservative- conservative in the sense of a more Libertarian, laissez-faire attitude to government in every day life.
