quote of the day

"There is an opportunity here. The tone has changed -- but obviously we recognize that, while the tone in the world has changed, the challenges remain. They are very significant. Certainly from our standpoint, this gives us a sense of momentum -- when the United States has accolades tossed its way, rather than shoes."
– assistant secretary pj crowley,
a spokesman for secretary of state hillary clinton
commenting on president barack obama winning the nobel peace prize today, crowley was referring to the incident last december when an iraqi journalist threw his shoes at then president george w. bush.

  1. and what did President Obama do to deserve the Nobel Peace Prize? i'm thoroughly confused.

  2. While I think it was a lovely gesture, I think it was premature - especially since Obama was selected after only two weeks in office. If they wanted to honor him, they should have come up with a Nobel Hope Prize. That would have worked without leaving anyone to question.

    IMO.

  3. The Peace Prize is often awarded to people whose actions toward peace create hopeful atmosphere. As Rachel Maddow, in her editorial points out, if the Nobel committee waited until the sought after peace came to fruition, there would be precious few prizes awarded.
