who's that celebrity on the cover of vogue? it's none other than republican vice-presidential nominee sarah palin. (they called her sarah barracuda in high school.)don't you think the guys at fox news are jumping out of their anchor chairs? here's part of a great little conversation started on facebook:
roberta: if i were a republican woman, i would be insulted! does he really think women are that stupid????
lisa: yes he does and he thinks female democrats will switch over too!
roberta: well he is wrong! she doesn't even vote FOR women's issues. 18 months as a governor? what a joke. and if i were a republican congresswoman, i'd be incensed!
lisa: they called her an outsider on cnn, but really she's a newbie. It's pandering and its obvious. if (god forbid) she is vp, she'll be sent to funerals and weddings and it will have absolutely no influence.
roberta: yup..she looks good in black.
(just a note: a few folks have asked about that vogue cover. yes, it's fake. palin did appear in vogue, but not on the cover. and wearing something much more alaska.)
My husband told me they picked "Palin," and my first thought was Michael Palin, and I thought "Well, wouldn't he be more suited to the Ministry of Silly Walks?"
ReplyDeleteOne thing about her - she is CONSISTENTLY pro-life in that she also opposes the death penalty, and this is a rarity among pro-lifers. I think the death penalty opposition may raise some right-winged eyebrows.
Her kids' names - could we BE more waspy??? (Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper, and Trig.)

My problem with her as VP is that she is on record saying, as recently as this past June, that she doesn't know what a Vice President does all day.

On a purely superficial, image level, I think McCain is going to look even more ancient (and perhaps just a bit creepy) standing next to her at the convention.

ReplyDeleteI like that she has gone after corruption in her own party up in Alaska, but am I to believe that she would go after Bush, Cheney, and other politicians in Washington who have shredded our Constitution and our Bill of Rights? I will believe it when I see it. And yes the guys over at Fox won't be able to contain themselves. McCain is teaching a course in Pandering 101, that is very clear. Go Obama!

ReplyDeleteI don't know how well traditional women will take to a woman who left her newborn baby with DOWN'S SYNDROME in the care of a nanny to go back to work 3 days after his birth. And the beauty pageant thing won't thrill feminists. (Although I did a pageant in college to get some $ - got $150, woo!)
She's really the Anti-Hillary. The Hillary Harridans (as I've heard them called in the MSM) are not going to flock to her in desperation. And with as little experience as she has, how ridiculous is it to name her VP to a man who is 72 years old with a history of cancer??
She's the Male Quayle. Looks good on paper, but there's nothing there. (I know, Quayle did serve one term, but it's been 20 years since he was added to the ticket for the "cute" factor.)
Correction: She's the FEmale Quayle. I typed that wrong. I woke up thinking it this morning and was chagrined.
